The Charlotte Mecklenburg Development Corporation (CMDC) is a non-profit community development corporation, founded in 1997 as a private/public partnership between the City of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, and the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce.

The CMDC’s vision is twofold: To serve as a catalyst for economic stimulation in Mecklenburg County on designated corridors in need, through joint public and private real estate development activities, and to serve as the catalyst for new private economic development.

The funding, financing, and development activities are coordinated by the Board, which consists of members from: city government, city appointees, county officials, county appointees, Chamber of Commerce members, and Chamber of Commerce appointees.

The CMDC’s strategic vision includes building business parks, developing land and other commercial projects as well as changing the environment for development in underdeveloped areas.  The CMDC’s acquisition profile includes property that is undeveloped, abandoned, contaminated, jobless, crime-ridden, with low tax valuation and/or fragmented ownership. The CMDC’s goals for their developments are as follows:

1.  Determine the best possible corridor/site  for change.
2.  Assemble the land.
3.  Remediate environmental concerns
4.  Develop the infrastructure.
5.  Attract business investments and jobs
6.  Increase tax base
7.  Revive jobs and services
