The Charlotte Mecklenburg Development Corporation (”CMDC”) was founded in 1997 as a private/public partnership between the City of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, and the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce. The CMDC is a non-profit organization with the following mission: To identify opportunities and to revitalize distressed, inner-city corridors through the development or re-development of commercial projects that will then provide a catalyst for future development, serving neighborhood residents and enhancing business development in areas that would otherwise remain void of new activity. Funding, financing, and development activities are coordinated by the Board that consists of members from City government, City appointees, County officials, County appointees, Chamber of Commerce members, Chamber appointees, and private members of the Mecklenburg County real estate community. The CMDC bridges the gap between market-driven commercial development and public need. The CMDC initiates development where private developers will not go – in an effort to create the catalyst for future development. |
